Eanes ISD Budget Impacted by COVID-19

The Eanes Independent School District School Board received an update on the impacts of COVID-19 on the 2020-21 budget. As expected, factors such as lower enrollment played a part in what is now anticipated to be a $2.7 million budget deficit. This is despite the approved Penny Swap, which resulted in a gain of $3.3 million.

In June, it was anticipated that enrollment for the 2020-21 school year would be 8,150 students. By December, however, there were only 7,970 students. Additionally, the Child Nutrition food service program, which is usually self-supporting, is projected to have a $1.5 million shortfall. Rentals, EZ Care, and Community Education typically generate about a $1.4 million profit that supplements the General Fund. They are expected now to generate only $400k.
