Austin Named #3 U.S. City for STEM Jobs

Austin, Texas is the third top United States city for STEM — science, technology, engineering, and math — jobs, according to a WalletHub study. STEM jobs have an average median annual wage of $84,880, much higher than many non-STEM occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and are projected to grow 8.8 percent between 2018 and 2028, compared to five percent for other occupations.
In addition to its third place finish overall, Austin was fifth in professional opportunities, 14th for quality of life, and 20th for STEM-friendliness. It also ranked third for highest quality of engineering universities and for highest annual median wage for STEM workers. The study compared 100 of the largest U.S. cities. Houston-The Woodlands-Sugarland was 34th and Dallas was 36th overall. Houston had the highest annual median wage among all U.S. cities.
