Omni Barton Creek Adding New Hotel
The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa will be demolishing a parking garage and additional buildings in order to build a new 10-story hotel. The new hotel at 8212 Barton Club Drive will include over 100 rooms, an almost 90,000 square foot conference center, a restaurant, and guest parking, according to the Austin Business Journal as reported by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.
Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts plans to spend $70 million on the expansion, which will add 60 percent more hotel rooms to the property. Built in 1986, the Omni Barton Creek has 309 rooms on 43.2 acres. According to the Austin American-Statesman, construction on the new hotel will start in the fall of 2017 and will complete by some time in 2019.
The Statesman reported the restaurant in the new hotel could be a Bob’s Steak and Chop House, a popular restaurant that already has a downtown Austin location.
The entire property of Barton Creek Resort and Spa holds four championship golf courses, two pool areas, the Three Springs Spa, a fitness center, mini golf and kid friendly activities, and 43,000 square feet of meeting space. The golf courses include Fazio Canyons, Fazio Foothills, Coore Crenshaw, and Palmer Lakeside, named after golf designer Tom Fazio, Austin native and golf champion Ben Crenshaw and architect Bill Coore, and golf great Arnold Palmer, respectively.
The resort, set in the beautiful Hill Country west of Austin, is a common attraction for both residents of Austin and Westlake and those visiting town for conferences and other events.
