Austin was ranked ninth in the nation among large areas, with a median square footage of 1,837 for homes in the Austin-Round Rock area. “As in several other areas in Texas, Austin area residents seem to prefer larger homes compared to most Americans,” stated the report. “The area is home to some of the state’s wealthiest and most well-educated residents,” it continued. “A typical household brought in $61,750 last year, the second-highest figure for a metro area in the state. Also, 41.5% of adults had attained at least a bachelor’s degree as of last year, one of the highest rates nationwide and the highest rate in Texas.” Houston, Texas came in second, with a median square footage of 1,900, and the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area came in tenth at 1,828 square feet.
