2012 AIA Homes Tour Showcases New and Remodeled Luxury Austin Homes
On the weekend of October 6th, American Institute of Architects Austin will host its 26th annual Home Tour, showcasing 13 new and newly-renovated homes across the Austin area. This two-day, self-guided tour celebrates the diverse and stunning talent of Austin’s local architects in both traditional and contemporary design. From an edgy 1950s renovation to a contemporary glass house, each of the 2012 homes on the AIA tour respond to specific lifestyles and reflect the unique character of Austin, Texas neighborhoods. “Of the 13 homes on this year’s tour, eight are renovation projects. This emphasis on renovation speaks to the current economic climate, the growing population of Austin and the recent trend of sustainability,” explains executive director Sally Fly. “Instead of relocating and building anew, homeowners are staying and improving, and opting to repurpose and transform outdated designs to make what is old, new again.” The AIA Homes Tour has sold out the past two years, and approximately 5,000 attendees are expected to attend the 2012 event. Hopeful attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, either online or from the locations of TreeHouse (Located in South Austin) Zinger Hardware (North Austin), or AIA Austin (Downtown Austin). Tickets to the AIA Austin Homes Tour went on sale September 1st, 2012 and are $30 in advance or $35 the weekend of the event. Credit cards will only be accepted if tickets are purchased online, or directly from the AIA office.
