One of seven chains of the Colorado River, Lake Travis offers splendid views and, as the largest in the Highland Lakes chains, over 18,000 acres of water and 200 miles of shoreline. Temperate weather most of the year allows for ample recreation and leisure, and with a width of up to four and a half miles, plenty of room for sporting.

Properties on Lake Travis

Luxury homes along Lake Travis offer a blend of hill country lifestyle and city convenience. Due to its large geographic size, the homes along Lake Travis can be in one of numerous communities, such as Lakeway, Spicewood, Briarcliff, Jonestown, Hudson Bend, Lago Vista, Pointe Venture, Volente, and Lower Basin. Each offers its own mix of amenities, including waterfront properties, hill top views, and gated communities. Homes along Lake Travis tend to start in the upper $300ks and trend into the multi-millions. Waterfront properties with large lots and deep water docks are the most in demand and most expensive. There are also condominiums in several locations along Lake Travis.

pavilion at the reserve at lake travisThe construction of the Mansfield Dam in 1942, to hold Colorado River floodwaters, created what is known as Lake Travis. The water naturally fills and recedes, with a high of over 710 feet reached in 1991 and a low of just over 614 feet reached in 1951. The lake is “full” at 681 feet, and flood gates allow water downstream when it reaches that depth. Many private homes will have their own boat storage, but potential homeowners should consider fluctuations in water levels when searching for waterfront Lake Travis homes. Deep water access will provide greater opportunity to dock at home; shallower areas may provide better price points.
